Planning Permission

“Earthmill’s sole focus on wind power and wealth of experience in this discipline made them the of obvious choice to complete our project.” – Dr John McGarva, Galloway

Having successfully installed over 200 turbines in England, Scotland and Wales, we have a huge amount of experience in preparing and submitting planning applications. Our excellent success rate is based on our outstanding in-house team of qualified planning professionals who have a wealth of knowledge and experience in the various technical disciplines required to gain planning consent.

In some instances, specialist reports may be required in order to submit an application. We have a list of trusted suppliers for outsourcing these reports, including the UK’s best experts in their respective fields such as acousticians, heritage experts and ecologists. By using only the best third party consultants our planning applications stand the greatest possible chance of success.

Earthmill Maintenance manages every stage of the planning process, keeping the land owner informed every step of the way. Each project is assigned a project manager and a project coordinator who will act as the main points of contact for the customer throughout the whole process.

The Planning Process

Earthmill Maintenance offers an integrated planning service to fully manage the complexities of the process, which include:

Pre-application advice – This comprehensive feedback identifies the level of assessment that will be required by your Local Planning Authority (LPA) for your wind turbine planning application.

Neighbourhood pre-consultation – You are now required by law to consult with your local community in advance of submitting a planning application for a wind turbine over 15m in height. Our experience in engaging with communities at an early stage of a project gives you the best chance of a successful planning application.

Enviromental impact assessment (EIA) screening – This determines whether the LPA will require additional surveys and reports. Our skilled team have a diverse range of professional disciplines to guide your through the EIA process.

Planning application documentation – These documents give a full description of the proposed development such as scale, use and appearance as well as relevant planning policy adherence and a landscape and visual impact assessment. We understand every project is unique and therefore we take a personal approach to writing these supporting documents. We consider what the development means to you, and what difference it will make to your business in order to gather support for your project.

Drawings – Preparation of scaled location plans, site plans and elevation drawings.

Landscape visualisations booklet– Our planning team use industry leading software that is used to produce visualisation documents to the highest standards to demonstrate how a turbine will look in the landscape surrounding your site. This document accompanies every planning application submission and is used in association with our landscape assessment.

Application management – Ongoing monitoring of the planning application and consultee responses including ongoing discussions with the planning officer. Our experience and knowledge from installing over 200 turbines means we have developed excellent working relationships with statutory consultees and  planning officers, across a large number of local planning authorities in England, Scotland and Wales.
